DUDLEY, Mass. (February 11, 2020) – The Western New England University women's basketball team beat Nichols, 75-64, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday evening at the Nichols Athletic Center.
Top Performers
Seniors Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.) and Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) both reached 1,000 career points tonight. Farrell finished with 22 points, while Orbann finished with 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Freshman Alexis Finnerty (Chester, Conn.) finished with a game high 32 points for the Bison.
Game Review
The Bison got things going early, taking a 10-4 lead after a 3-pointer from junior Isabella Nerney (Guilford, Conn.) with 6:28 left in the first quarter. Orbann reached 1,000 career points after making a jump shot with 3:00 left in the first quarter to make it 14-12, in favor of Nichols. The Bison finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to push the lead to 20-12 going into the second quarter.
The Bison held a 26-15 lead with 7:16 left in the half. The Golden Bears went on a 16-4 run over the remainder of the quarter and took a 31-30 going into halftime after a made jumper from junior guard Lauren Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine).
Western New England carried the momentum into the second half and pushed their lead to seven after a jumper from Farrell gave the Golden Bears a 39-32 lead with 6:30 remaining in the second quarter. A jumper from Finnerty with 0:44 remaining in the quarter cut the Western New England lead down to two by a score of 48-46. The Golden Bears finished on a 5-0 run to push the lead back to seven going into the fourth quarter.
Farrell reached 1,000 career points after making a 3-pointer with 5:26 remaining in the game to give the Golden Bears a 64-54 lead. Western New England pushed their lead to as many as 16 points after senior forward Courtney Carlson (Woodbury, Conn.) made a layup to give the Golden Bears a 73-57 lead with 2:23 remaining.
