Women’s Basketball Falls at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. (January 9, 2020) – The Western New England University women's basketball fell to WPI by a score of 70-40 on Thursday evening at Harrington Auditorium.

Top Performers
Senior Alana Keating (Leominster, Mass.) led the Engineers offensively with 17 points. Senior Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds.

The Golden Bears received 12 points from senior guard Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.). Freshman Abby Garaban (Maplewood, N.J.) provided seven points off the bench.

Game Review
The Engineers started strong, scoring the first 18 points of the game. Senior Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) made a pair of free throws to get the Golden Bears on the board. WPI took an 18-point lead going into the second quarter.

WPI scored the first six points of the second quarter. Western New England ended the run by a made jump shot from freshman Lexi Leon (East Hampton, Conn.). The Engineers outscored the Golden Bears 7-4 over the rest of the half.

Farrell got things started in third quarter, hitting a 3-pointer off after a steal by Orbann. The Engineers extended their lead by going on an 11-0 run over the next five minutes, before a layup by Farrell ended the run 

 The Engineers started the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run, before a 3-pointer by Julia Quinn started a 9-0 run for the Golden Bears. Freshmen Emma Elrod (Stratford, Conn.) and Garaban combined for 11 of Western New England's final 13 points.

• Western New England suffers their first defeat of 2020.

Western New England (10-3) returns to CCC action at Wentworth on Saturday afternoon. WPI (10-4) will stay at home against Middlebury on Tuesday evening.
