Women's Tennis Falls to Roger Williams, 8-1

Schrader secured the lone victory for the Golden Bears

Bristol, RI—The Western New England women's tennis team fell to Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play 8-1 at Roger Williams Tennis Courts.

Top Performers

Senior Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hill, N.Y.) won the lone match for the Golden Bears as she defeated senior Samantha Rivkin (Cold Harbor Springs, N.Y.)  in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 10-7) in the No.2 singles.

Match Review

The Hawks dominated the doubles competition on the day by blanking Western New England in No.1 and No. 2 doubles. Junior Maylene LaPress (Bedford, N.H.)  and Schrader lost to Alessia Cahoon and Heidi Martin in No. 1 doubles and junior Jessica Cote (Groton, Conn.) and senior Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) fell to Taryn Roche and Jessica Magliato 8-0.

In the No. 3 doubles match, sophomore Janet Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) and junior Kyra Palumbo (Albany, N.Y.) registered four points in their matchup, but ultimately fell 8-4.

The Hawks continued to control the singles rounds as they did not allow more than two points in any set. For the Golden Bears, Schrader was able to capture a match win on the day in the No. 2 Singles against Roche.

Western New England (3-1) will continue CCC play vs Nichols College on Saturday, September 21 at 12 pm. Roger Williams (5-0) will try to remain undefeated when they host Bridgewater State on tomorrow at 4 pm.
