Schrader & LaPress Earn All-CCC Recognition

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2019) – Senior Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and junior Maylene LaPress (Bedford, N.H.) of the Western New England University women's tennis team were both honored when the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its major award winners and All-CCC selections on Tuesday afternoon.

Schrader was named the CCC Co-Senior Scholar-Athlete in addition to garnering All-CCC first team singles accolades. LaPress collected All-CCC second team singles honors, while the duo of Schrader and LaPress teamed up to earn All-CCC second team doubles recognition. Western New England was also selected as the CCC Team Sportsmanship award recipient.

Schrader, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.95 grade point average, is a two-year captain who was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. She enjoyed a strong senior campaign on the courts, going a team-best 6-2 at second singles, including 4-2 in league action.

Facing the toughest competition in the CCC, LaPress posted a 2-5 record at No. 1 singles. She was also a member of Western New England's top doubles duo along with Schrader, going 5-4 overall with a 3-4 mark in CCC play.

The Golden Bears (5-4) travel to Wenham, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Gordon College in the quarterfinals of the CCC Tournament, with the match set to begin at 2 p.m.
