Women’s Tennis Falls on the Road at Gordon, 8-1

WENHAM, Mass. (September 24, 2019) – The Western New England University women's tennis team was dealt an 8-1 setback at Gordon College on Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Fighting Scots took control of the match with a 3-0 sweep of doubles play. Senior Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and junior Maylene LaPress (Bedford, N.H.) came up short in an 8-5 loss to Anne Carsey and Madison West at the No. 1 position, while senior Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) and junior Jessica Cote (Groton, Conn.) fell to Emily Ontiveros and Abigail Graves 8-2 at the No. 2 spot.

At No. 3, Jordyn Maddex and Anna Mullane topped junior Kyra Palumbo (Albany, N.Y.) and sophomore Janet Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.), 8-1. 

In singles action, Gordon took five of the six matchups to complete the 8-1 win. Western New England's lone point of the contest came at the No. 2 flight, where Schrader defeated West, 6-1, 6-2.

Western New England (3-3, 1-3 CCC) will look to bounce back on Saturday at Salve Regina. Gordon (5-3, 3-1 CCC) travels to Nichols on Saturday.
