Women’s Tennis Falls to Endicott on Senior Day, 9-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 5, 2019) – The Western New England University women's tennis team fell to Endicott College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Volvo Courts.

Prior to the start of the match, Western New England honored seniors Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) for their contributions to the women's tennis program over the past four years.

Endicott won all three doubles matchups to open up a 3-0 lead. The Gulls' top duo of Gretta Hartman and Justine Hoover won 8-1 over Schrader and junior Maylene LaPress (Bedford, N.H.), while Endicott's No. 2 team of Olivia Berler and Cameron Foley topped Bauer and junior Jessica Cote (Groton, Conn.) by the same score.

At No. 3 doubles, Cara McCormack and Ashley Keaveney registered an 8-1 result over junior Kyra Palumbo (Albany, N.Y.) and sophomore Janet Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.).

In singles action, Hoover posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over LaPress at No. 1, and Schrader fell to Hartman 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.

In the No. 3 spot, McCormack beat Cote 6-0, 6-0, while Berler topped Bauer 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.

In the final two singles matchups, Keaveney earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Martinelli at No. 5, and Clare O'Keefe got past junior Sydney Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

With its regular season complete, Western New England (5-4, 3-4 CCC) awaits the CCC Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, October 16. Endicott (7-3, 4-2 CCC) plays Springfield tomorrow.
