Western New England Finishes Seventh at Bill Detrick Invitational

Junior John Abbott leads Golden Bears with 12th place finish after shooting two-over par 74 in round two

NEWINGTON, Conn. (September 11, 2016) – The Western New England University men's golf team turned in a seventh place finish this weekend at the season-opening Bill Detrick Invitational, hosted by Trinity College at Indian Hill Country Club.

Western New England followed up its opening round score of 318 with a 315 today, finishing with a two-day score of 633. Trinity captured the team title after shooting a combined 588, while Williams (607) and Babson (614) followed in second and third, respectively. Trinity's Joseph Ladd and Will Rosenfield tied for medalist honors with even par scores of 144.

Top Performers
• Junior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.), who shot an opening round 79 that had him tied for 26th, climbed all the way up into a three-way tie for 12th with a two-over 74 today.
• Senior Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Western New England's leader after Friday's action, finished in a tie for 20th with a two-day score of 156 after posting a 79 today.
• Junior Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) turned in a round two score of 81 and placed 29th with a combined total of 161.

• Senior Nick Shemkovitz (Meriden, Conn.) – T-42nd (82+85=167)
