Western New England in ninth place with opening round 318   

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (September 24, 2016) – The Western New England University men's golf team turned in an opening round score of 318 earlier today at the Williams Fall Invitational, hosted by Williams College at Taconic Golf Club.

Western New England sits in ninth place in the 18-team field with its 34-over par score of 318. Trinity College (301) is leading the field by one stroke over host Williams (302), with Amherst (305) rounding out the top three. Western New England trails Rhode Island College by one stroke heading into tomorrow's action.

Top Performers
• Junior John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) is leading the way for the Golden Bears with his opening round 75 on the par-71 course, placing him in a tie for tenth overall.
• Senior Nick Shemkovitz (Meriden, Conn.) fired a nine-over par 80, which has him tied for 40th.
• Senior Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) posted an opening round 81, good for a tie for 45th.
