Golden Bears Bounce Back with 4-2 Win over UNE

Four different players score, Gollmer finishes with 41 saves

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 5, 2016) – Four different Golden Bears scored as the Western New England University ice hockey team earned an impressive 4-2 victory over the University of New England this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Olympia Ice Center.

Top Performers
• Sophomore netminder Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) rebounded from a tough outing on Thursday with a 41-save performance, leading the way for the Golden Bears. Gollmer stopped all 17 of the shots that he faced in the second period and 15 of UNE's 16 attempts in the third.
• Junior defenseman Matthieu Audet (Campbell, Calif.) and sophomore forward Stefan Koproske (Simsbury, Conn.) both posted multi-point efforts with a goal and an assist.

• Sophomore defenseman Tucker Ross (Ashburn, Va.) and senior forward Blaise Healy (Melrose, Mass.) provided the offense for the Nor'easters with one goal each.

Game Review
• Healy staked UNE to a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the contest with the only goal of the first period.
• Western New England utilized a power play opportunity to pull even at the 6:14 mark of the second period, as Audet ripped a shot from the point that caromed off the post and into the net for his first goal of the season.
• The Golden Bears then pulled ahead midway through the period on sophomore Tyler Hines' (North Haven, Conn.) shot from the high slot.
• Western New England extended its lead to 3-1 late in the second period, as Audet and sophomore forward Matt O'Dea (Orland Park, Ill.) set up sophomore forward Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.) for his first of the season.
• Ross cut the Nor'easters deficit to one (3-2) 6:36 into the third period, but Koproske restored Western New England's two-goal cushion at the 12:30 mark.
• Gollmer stopped all seven of the shots that he faced the rest of the way to preserve the victory.

Notes
• O'Dea, who is in his first season with Western New England after transferring from Concordia (Minn.) College, has recorded points in two of his first three games as a Golden Bear.
• Western New England's win came against one of the top programs in the conference, as UNE was selected third in the CCC Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The Nor'easters outshot the Golden Bears 43-14 and held a 42-30 edge in the faceoff circle.
