Twietmeyer scores third goal in last two games for Golden Bears
BIDDEFORD, Maine (January 26, 2017) – Senior captain Josh Twietmeyer (Weston, Fla.) scored his third goal in the last two games, but the Western New England University ice hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to the University of New England this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Harold Alfond Forum.
Top Performers
• Twietmeyer, who helped the Golden Bears pull off an improbable comeback with a pair of late goals in Saturday's 4-3, overtime victory against Johnson & Wales, found the back of the net again tonight for the sixth time this season.
• Sophomore forward David Kleyman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was credited with an assist on Twietmeyer's third period tally, his sixth helper of the season.
• Freshman forward Ryan Bloom (Northville, Mich.) powered the Nor'easters with a hat trick, while senior Trevor Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) dished out three assists.
• Freshman netminder Tate Sproxton (Surrey, B.C.) finished with 24 saves, including 11 in the second period.
Game Review
• Fleurent set Bloom up for the game's opening goal 13:24 into the first period, and the Nor'easters led 1-0 after one period of play.
• Sophomore Dylan Bengtson (Coral Springs, Fla.) doubled UNE's lead at the 13:12 mark of the second period, before Bloom made it 3-0 just 30 seconds later with his second goal of the contest. Bloom completed his hat trick with 2:43 remaining in the period as the hosts opened up a 4-0 advantage heading into the final frame.
• After two more Nor'easter goals, Twietmeyer put an end to Sproxton's shutout bid with the help of Kleyman's assist late in the third period.
Notes
• UNE outshot Western New England 32-25, but the Golden Bears held a 34-33 edge in the faceoff circle.
• Twietmeyer's seven points (five goals, two assists) this season have him tied for fourth on the team.
• Junior David DiSchaivi (Etobicoke, Ont.) won 11-of-16 faceoffs.
