Curry Skates to 4-1 Win over Western New England

Sophomore Steve Beck scores Golden Bears' lone goal in second period

MILTON, Mass. (November 12, 2016) – The Curry College ice hockey team employed four different goal scorers in a 4-1 victory over Western New England University this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Max Ulin Rink.  

Top Performers
• Western New England sophomore forward Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.) accounted for the Golden Bears' only goal of the contest, while sophomore defenseman Joe Mazza (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was credited with an assist.
• Sophomore goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) topped the 30-save mark for the fourth time this season with 34 tonight.

• Senior defenseman Mike Apreda (Newmarket, Ont.) led Curry with one goal and one assist, while freshman Alec Mono (Las Vegas, Nev.) recorded three helpers.
• Colonels' senior netminder Brett Sinclair (St. Catharines, Ont.) stopped 16 of the 17 shots that he faced.

Game Review
• Apreda staked Curry to a 1-0 advantage midway through the first period, and the Colonels led by the same margin at intermission.
• Just 4:22 into the second period, Western New England tied the contest on Beck's team-leading third goal of the season.
• The Golden Bears were unable to get anything else past Sinclair, however. Curry restored its lead less than four minutes later, before going up 3-1 midway through the third period. Senior forward Tyler Vankleef (Dundas, Ont.) extended the final margin to three with an empty net goal in the final minute of the game.

Notes
• Curry outshot Western New England 38-17 and held a 38-22 advantage in the faceoff circle.
• Neither team was able to capitalize on its opportunities with a man advantage, as the Golden Bears were 0-for-3 on their power plays and Curry was 0-for-1.

Western New England (1-3-1, 1-2-1 CCC) returns home to host Nichols on Thursday, while Curry (3-2, 3-1 CCC) continues its three-game homestand against Suffolk.
