Four Different Golden Bears Score in 4-2 Victory at Suffolk

Gollmer registers 33 saves on 35 shots

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. (January 28, 2017) – Four different Golden Bears found the back of the net as Western New England University skated to a 4-2 victory over Suffolk University on Saturday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action at O'Neil Rink.

Top Performers
• Junior Matt Smethurst (Rexford, N.Y.) and sophomore Matt O'Dea (Orland Park, Ill.) both turned in a multi-point efforts with one goal and one assist each.
• Sophomore Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.) dished out a pair of assists, while junior David DiSchiavi (Etobicoke, Ont.) and sophomore David Kleyman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added one goal each.
• Sophomore goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) registered 33 saves on 35 Suffolk shots.

• Sophomore Connor Parent (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Nick Mosher (Cumming, Ga.) provided the offense for Suffolk with one goal each.

Game Review
• Smethurst and Beck set O'Dea up for the game's opening goal 12:03 into the first period, and the Golden Bears led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
• The same line accounted for Western New England's second goal, as Smethurst netted his fourth of the season on feeds from Beck and O'Dea 5:23 into the second period.
• The Golden Bears extended their lead to 3-0 with 6:01 remaining in the frame on Kleyman's power play goal, before Suffolk took advantage of a power play opportunity to get on the board with Mosher's goal at the 18:11 mark.
• Parent cut the Rams' deficit to one early in the third period, but DiSchiavi secured an insurance goal for Western New England with the help of senior captain Josh Twietmeyer (Weston, Fla.) and Edmund Rogers (Creve Coeur, Mo.) to extend the final margin to 4-2.

Notes
• Western New England outshot Suffolk 40-35, including 22-12 in the second period.
• Following his two-point effort, Smethurst leads the Golden Bears with 11 points (four goals, seven assists). Beck, O'Dea and Kleyman are tied with ten each.
• Western New England is 3-3-1 in seven games this semester.
