Golden Bears Blanked at Endicott, 5-0

Gollmer registers season-high 51 saves for Western New England

BEVERLY, Mass. (December 3, 2016) – The Western New England University ice hockey team suffered a 5-0 setback to Endicott College this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Raymond Bourque Arena.

Top Performers
• Junior forward Matt Smethurst (Rexford, N.Y.) recorded a team-high six shots and won 8-of-17 faceoffs.
• Sophomore goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) finished with a season-high 51 saves on 56 shots.

• Junior forward Jack Musil (Hull, England) led the Gulls with two goals, while sophomores Tommy Besinger (Milton, Mass.) and Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.) finished with two points each (one goal, one assist).
• Endicott junior netminder Kevin Aldridge (Birmingham, Mich.) registered a 30-save shutout.

Game Review
• After nearly 17 minutes of scoreless action, Endicott got on the board late in the first period on Musil's first of the game. Olsson found the back of the net exactly one minute later as the Gulls opened up a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
• Musil made it 3-0 at the 6:16 mark of the second period, and Besinger netted his sixth goal of the season in the final minute of the frame.
• Endicott sophomore Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alta.) capped the scoring 13:35 into the third period, extending the final margin to five. Aldridge stopped all 11 of the shots that he faced over the final 20 minutes to preserve his fifth career shutout.

Notes
• Endicott outshot Western New England 56-30, but the Golden Bears held a 34-29 edge in the faceoff circle.
• Neither team had success with a man advantage, as Endicott went 0-for-2 on the power play and Western New England went 0-for-3.
• Gollmer has recorded 30+ saves nine times this season, reaching the 40-save mark on three occasions.

Western New England (4-6-1, 2-5-1 CCC) returns home on Thursday to host Assumption in its final game of the semester, while Endicott (6-2-2, 5-2-1) hosts Salem State next Saturday night.
