Western New England Settles for 2-2 Tie with Suffolk

Rams erase one-goal deficit in closing seconds of third period

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 10, 2016) – Suffolk University erased a 2-1 deficit late in the third period on its way to a 2-2 tie with Western New England University this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) ice hockey action at the Olympia Ice Center.

• Sophomores Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.) and Tyler Hines (North Haven, Conn.) each scored for the Golden Bears, while junior forward David DiSchiavi (Etobicoke, Ont.) provided an assist on Hines' tally.
• Sophomore goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) turned in another strong effort in net, stopping 37 of the 39 shots that he faced, including 13 in the third period and two in overtime.

• Sophomore defenseman Mikhail Bryan (Dayton, Ohio) netted the game-tying goal for the Rams with just 15 seconds remaining as Suffolk salvaged a point in the CCC standings.

Game Review
• The visitors jumped out to a 1-0 lead 8:09 into the contest, when junior forward Luke Miller (Lancaster, Calif.) forced a turnover directly in front of the Western New England net before making a move around Gollmer for his first goal of the season.
• Western New England pulled even on a similar play at the 15:05 mark of the opening period. This time, it was Beck that forced the turnover in Suffolk's defensive zone and beat Rams' sophomore goalie Michael Levine (Clarendon Hill, Ill.) through the five-hole.
• The Golden Bears claimed a 2-1 lead early in the second period, when DiShiavi won a faceoff in Suffok's zone directly back to Hines, who fired a snap shot from the point that took a deflection and found the back of the net.
• Western New England appeared to be on its way to its second straight victory, but the Rams equalized in the closing seconds of the third period. After a Golden Bear penalty, Suffolk pulled Levine to give the visitors a 6-on-4 advantage. Western New England was able to kill off most of the power play, but Bryan got a shot off from the high slot with 15 seconds on the clock that made its way through traffic and past Gollmer.
• Gollmer made a pair of saves during the five-minute overtime period as the teams settled for a 2-2 tie.
