Field Hockey’s Johnston Earns CCC Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 26, 2022) – The Commonwealth Coast Conference announced their weekly slew of athletes of the week on Monday, seeing WNE Field Hockey's Sarah Johnston named as this week's Player of the Week. 

Johnston and the Golden Bears had a successful week, going 2-0, including a CCC win in their first CCC game over Roger Williams University while also defeating Westfield State University in non-conference action. During the 2-0 week, the Golden Bears sophomore tallied three goals and picked up an assist, good for seven points. In the 3-0 win over Westfield State, Johnston collected a goal and an assist for three points, while taking four shots during the game. In the team's first CCC win of the season over Roger Williams University, Johnston was again in the spotlight on the offensive end, scoring twice for the Golden Bears, collecting four points while taking two shots on goal. 

On the season, Johnston has collected five goals and four assists, good for 14 points. Johnston has started in and played in all 24 games through her career and has 15 goals and 11 assists for WNE, good for 41 points. Western New England hosts the University of New England on Saturday, October 1 at 1:00 pm from Golden Bear Stadium in a battle of two undefeated teams in conference play.
