Klesyk, Johnston Named to NFHCA All-Region Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 22, 2022) – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association named both Western New England forwards Taylor Klesyk and Sarah Johnston to the NFCHA All Region I Second Team. This year over 190 Division III student-athletes have been named to NFHCA Division III All-Region teams sponsored by The LineUp. Division III teams are separated into six regions: Region I, Region II, Region III, Region IV, Region V, and Region VI — each region honors up to 16 student-athletes on a first team and up to 16 student-athletes on a second team.

Honorees are listed in their region first by team, then alphabetically by last name.

The NFHCA Division III All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on November 30. They will be followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on December 13. Then the NFHCA National Player of the Year will be announced on December 15.

Klesyk, the graduate student, led Western New England in multiple statistical categories on the season, being named to her first all-region honors. On the season, Klesyk scored 13 goals and added seven assists, playing in all 17 games for the Golden Bears. The Hamden, Connecticut native collected 33 points on the season and scored her 100th career point for western New England on a goal in a 4-0 win over Clark University (October 25). Klesyk went on to take 72 shots on the season, putting 47 on goal while scoring three game winning goals for the Golden Bears, who finished the season with a 11-6 record. 

Sarah Johnston earns her second All-Region honors after being named to the first team a season ago. Johnston improved on her first-year campaign for Western New England, slotting in ten goals and picking up four assists for WNE field hockey on the year. Johnston took 52 shots for Western New England, putting an astonishing 43 shots on goal, while scoring one game winning goal for the Golden Bears on the season. The Uxbridge, Massachusetts native has played in and started in all 34 games through two seasons with the Golden Bears, scoring 20 times and collected 11 assists, good for 51 total points in her career. 

Western New England wrapped up their 2022 season with an overall record of 11-6, which included a sparkling 6-2 record on the road. WNE won four conference games on the season, earning their spot in the CCC Semifinals for the second season in a row.
