Field Hockey Dropped by Endicott on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 15, 2022) – The Western New England field hockey team couldn't solve the conference undefeated Gulls of Endicott College on Saturday, falling 4-0 from Golden Bear Stadium. Prior to opening the contest, WNE honored Emily Campbell, Abby Burns and Taylor Klesyk as part of the 2022 Field Hockey senior day.

Records:

  • Endicott College: 12-2, 4-0 CCC
  • Western New England: 6-5, 2-2 CCC

How it Happened:
The Gulls wasted little time to get started with their opening goal of the game as Olivia Lampasona was able to take a shot that dribbled by GK Zoey Wexler and into the back of the net, giving Endicott an early 1-0 lead. Claire Boncek picked up an assist on the play. Western New England would fight back as Taylor Klesyk charged towards goal and took a shot on net, though was saved by Brianna Anslow, keeping Western New England off the scoreboard. Off a penalty corner shortly after, Olivia Eastman would deliver a shot that again was kicked away by the Endicott goalkeeper, as the Gulls maintained their one goal lead through the first 15 minutes of play.

Neither team could get the ball rolling in the second quarter, though WNE came away with the better of the chances, earning three penalty corners to Endicott's two, though could not find a way to score. Just three shots were had in the second quarter, two from the Gulls and one from the Golden Bears.

Endicott took off quickly in the third quarter and came away with their second goal of the game when Natalia Correia found the back of the net for the first time this season. Correia's shot was from just inside the arc where the ball would roll past WNE defenders and goalkeeper and into the net to give Endicott a 2-0 lead. Shortly after, Maddy Dengler would score her 9th goal of the season when she was able to dribble the ball into the circle and move away from two WNE defenders and push the ball into the net to go up 3-0.
Ella Henry made her debut at Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday, playing the final 15 minutes of the contest. Henry would make a big save on Meghan Lehouiller to make her first save at Golden Bear Stadium. Endicott would slot home one final goal, with 36 seconds to play. Tori Swanson was able to bat the ball out of the air on a pass from Meghan Hogan, picking up her 8th goal of the season. Endicott would come away with the 4-0 victory.
