Four from Field Hockey Named to All-CCC Teams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 8, 2022) – The Western New England field hockey team saw four of their own named to the All-CCC teams as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. 

Graduate Student Taylor Klesyk picked up All-CCC First team honors after leading the Golden Bears offensively in 2022. Klesyk scored 13 goals for WNE while also notching seven assists, good for a team high 33 points on the year. Klesyk took 72 shots during the season, putting 47 on goal while scoring three game winning goals. The Hamden, Connecticut native collected her 100th career point as a member of Western New England Field Hockey in a 5-0 win over Clark University on October 25. Klesyk is just the 5th member of WNE Field Hockey to reach the 100-point plateau. Over her career with WNE, Klesyk played in 72 games, making 69 starts. She scored 43 goals and picked up 17 assists, good for 103 career points. Klesyk took 205 shots, 139 on goal, while scoring eight game winning goals for the Golden Bears. 

Joining Klesyk on the All-CCC First Team is sophomore Sarah Johnston, who earns her second straight All-CCC First Team award. Johnston came away with another stellar season to build off her first-year campaign, collecting ten goals and four assists, good for 24 points on the season. Johnston played in and made starts in all 17 games during the season, taking 52 shots, placing 43 on goal, while collecting one game winning goal. Over her two-year career, Johnston has tallied 20 goals and 11 assists in 34 games played, making all 34 starts. 

First year Haley Kaczka picked up Second Team All-CCC after putting together 11 points on the season. Kaczka scored four goals and added three assists, picking up her first collegiate point in her first game of the year in a 1-0 win over WPI. The Granby, Connecticut native scored her first collegiate goal on home turf against Connecticut College (September 13).  Kaczka took 31 shots on the year, putting 16 on goal in her 16 games played. 

Senior Abby Burns lands on the Second Team All-CCC after putting together an exceptional year on the back line of defense for WNE Field Hockey. Burns contributed on the offensive end of the field as well, scoring two goals, both penalty stroke goals, while picking up four assists during the season. Burns collected eight points on the year whole taking ten total shots. The defender held her opponents to under two goals per game against WNE, while the Golden Bears recorded six shutouts during the season. The Hooksett, N.H. native was named CCC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season and also named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) 2022 Division III Senior Game. 

The Western New England field hockey team recently wrapped up their 2022 schedule, finishing with an 11-6 record.
