Field Hockey’s Burns Named to NFHCA Division III Senior Game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 24, 2022) – Western New England field hockey defender Abby Burns has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association 2022 Victory Sports Tours/NFCHA Division III Senior Game. Burns becomes the fourth Golden Bear all-time to be chosen for this honor.

All six NCAA Division III regions are represented on the list of 2022 honorees. The selected student-athletes were nominated by their NFHCA member coach and were chosen based on their career accomplishments. The selected seniors are given the opportunity to represent their institution while competing against their peers. This year, the Division III Senior Game will take place in conjunction with the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship in Glassboro, New Jersey.

The Senior Game is projected for 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Rowan University.

Burns has been a lockdown defender for the Golden Bears over her four-year career, playing in 47 games, making 46 starts. The Golden Bears defense, led by Burns, has allowed just 26 goals through 13 games, while allowing just 143 shots on the 2022 season. Burns has collected three goals and two assists over her four-year career, collecting one game winning goal and also collecting on defensive save. As of today, Western New England is 27-22 with Burns in the lineup. Burns joins Cori Eggert, Jillian Brown, and Jen Mikulec as the other Golden Bears to play in the NFCHA Senior Game.

The Western New England field hockey team returns to Golden Bear Stadium on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 pm to host Clark University.
