Harrison Drops 27 Points in Comeback Win over Endicott

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 5, 2023) – Western New England's men's basketball team took on CCC opponent Endicott College Gulls at the Alumni Healthful Living Center where they came back to take the Win 82-75.

Records:

  • Western New England: 9-2, 5-0 CCC
  • Endicott College: 8-4, 4-1 CCC

How It Happened: Endicott got off to a 5-0 run before Gavin Greene put WNE on the scoreboard with a layup. The Gulls then hit four three-point shots with adding only one foul shot and a jumper to lead the Golden Bears 21-3. Jake Harrison scored a couple of buckets to break up Endicott's run, then the Gulls swooshed in another three. Greene contributed to four more points while WNE worked their way back in the ballgame. Under 10 minutes left in the first half, Cody Palazzeli brought WNE only down nine, 28-19, and Mike Resnick made it closer with a corner three. The Golden Bears had the Gulls within five until yet another three from the Gulls. WNE remained competitive within the first half, bringing the score deficit within six once more, but the Gulls hit three more three-pointers in this half to keep them ahead 47-40 at halftime.

Two more threes and three foul shots to start the half for Endicott, back to a double-digit game 55-40. The Golden Bears started their comeback. They kept the Gulls off the scoreboard for four minutes. WNE's run started with a layup from Greene, some free-throws from Tim Restall, a layup from Harrison, then a three knocked in by Andrew Byfield, 55-49 Gulls. There were a few trips to the foul line for both teams while WNE still were working on breaking down the Gulls. There was another couple of baskets from Harrison and Restall before the well needed three-pointer knocked in by Brian Geitner for the Golden Bears to only trail the Gulls 63-60 halfway through the final period of the game. The Gulls got back up by six, the Golden Bears, battling it out, tied the game at 5:54 off a made bucket by Greene, 67-67. The Gulls not missing a beat beyond the arc hit another one to re-take the lead. Restall tied it up for the Golden Bears three minutes left on the clock, 72-72. Endicott shot in their 14th and final three of the game. Harrison's And 1 trip to the hoop earned the team three points, tied up game, 1:40. He also got the bucket for WNE's first lead in the game ever. Some free-throws increased it for the Golden Bears who kept the Gulls off the scoreboard for the final 2:46, after being down 21-3, to defeat the only other undefeated team in the CCC, the Golden Bears win 82-75.

On the Floor:

  • As a team, the Golden Bears shot 49.2 percent from the floor, 20.0 percent from the three, and 65.5 percent from the foul line while gathering 41 rebounds, 14 assists, six blocks, and two steals.
  • The Gulls shot 38.1 percent from the hardwood, 43.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 60.2 percent from the free throw line while tallying 26 rebounds, 15 assists, four blocks, and three steals.
  • The Golden Bears were led by Jake Harrison who had 27 points, adding eight rebounds and five assists. He went 8-15 from inside the paint, and 11-15 from the foul line.
  • Gavin Greene added 16 points for the Golden Bears, and Tim Restall led the team in rebounds with 13.
