Men’s Basketball Sits Fourth In Most Recent Region II Rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 15, 2023) – The Western New England men's basketball team opens this week's regional rankings in fourth place, as released on Tuesday night by the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee for Region II. 

Western New England (18-5, 13-3 CCC) is joined by fellow CCC rival Nichols College (18-5, 14-2 CCC), who sits in third place in the rankings. Other teams in the Region II rankings include Keene State College (22-1, 14-0 LEC) who sits 5th in the top 25 D3hoops.com overall rankings and first in the Region II rankings. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (19-3, 11-1 NEWMAC) claims the second spot in the Region II rankings while sitting at #20 in the D3hoops.com top 25 rankings. Rounding out the top six of the Regional Rankings are both Western Connecticut State University (21-2, 12-2 LEC), and Emerson College (14-9, 9-3 NEWMAC). 

These six teams Regional Rankings included results against other regionally ranked opponents. Western New England is 2-1 against regionally ranked opponents this season, going 1-1 against CCC foe Nichols College while also defeating Trinity (Conn.) University, who sits 7th in the Region I standings. 

Regional rankings are used to advise the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Committee when determining at-large berths to the NCAA tournament, as well as potential hosting opportunities for an institution.

Western New England finishes their home schedule tonight, Wednesday, February 15 at 7:30 pm by hosting the Rams of Suffolk University. WNE will head out to Gordon College on Saturday, February 18 at 3:00 pm to finish their final game of the regular season. Commonwealth Coast Conference Playoffs will begin on Tuesday, February 21. Western New England has already locked up a home game for the quarterfinal round no matter the results from their final two regular season games.
