Men’s Basketball Remains in Region II Rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 22, 2023) – The Western New England men's basketball team, coming off a triumph over Salve Regina University in the CCC Quarterfinal round, sees themselves placed fifth in the NCAA Region II Rankings, as announced by the Regional Committee on Tuesday afternoon. 

Western New England dropped one spot this week after falling in their regular season finale at Gordon College last Saturday afternoon. WNE also picked up a mid-week win over Suffolk University, finishing the regular season with a 19-6 record and 14-4 in CCC play. The top three in the region remain unchanged from a week ago as the top spot belongs to Keene State College (24-1, 18-0 LEC) after the Owls became the first team in the LEC era to finish with a perfect conference record. WPI (21-3, 13-1 NEWMAC) took second place and Nichols College (20-4, 16-2 CCC) round out the top three. Emerson College (16-9, 11-3 NEWMAC) jump two spots to #4 while Western New England (19-6, 14-4 CCC) sit at fifth. Newcomer to the rankings Babson College (17-8, 10-4 NEWMAC) round out the top six in the region. 

The Golden Bears finished with a 76-69 win over Salve Regina University in the CCC Quarterfinal game on Tuesday night to advance to the semifinal round which WNE will host against third seeded Endicott College on Thursday, February 23 from the Alumni Healthful Living Center at 7:00 PM.
