Golden Bears Drop Gordon to Remain Perfect in CCC Play

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 18, 2023) – Western New England's men's basketball team had a home CCC match up against the Gordon College Fighting Scots, who they dominated 92-63.

Records:

  • Western New England: 13-2, 9-0 CCC
  • Gordon College: 6-10, 2-7 CCC

How It Happened: The beginning of the half started off a back-and-forth game. Brian Geitner knocked in three three-point shots to give the Golden Bears an 11-8 lead, and then they went for a straight eight points. A dunk slammed in by Jake Harrison made it a 10-point game 12:24 remaining in the half. Gordon and WNE started exchanging three-pointers with Mike Resnick putting up two for the Golden Bears. Both teams hit baskets one after another, WNE still holding down a lead. Under five in the half, Max Jones adds to the three-point list, giving the Golden Bears an 39-24 lead. The fighting Scots last first half points came from the free-throw line, and the Golden Bears put up two more layups for a first half score 43-26 Golden Bears.

Geitner started the second half as well as the first. He hit another three and went 4-4 from the foul line. Plus, a three from Cody Palazzesi, one from Tim Restall, and few layups from Gavin Greene, the Golden Bears had made their way into a 60-32 lead in less than five minutes of play. Gordon quietly hit a three down on the other end, before Harrison slammed another one down, Resnick swooshed another three, and Greene put it down at the rim. WNE ahead by 30 points with no signs of slowing down, 67-37. Greene with a great second half, also had back-to-back three-point shots. The Fighting Scots started hitting some more threes as well, which were answered by another one from Jones and Geitner, and Jamani Alves with his first of the night, 6:42 left in the game, WNE ahead 86-51 put the game to bed early. Gordon got up two more threes a little too late, and the Golden Bears win it 92-63.

On the Floor:

  • As a team, the Golden Bears shot 48.6 percent from the floor, 48.4 percent from the three, and 100.0 percent from the foul line while gathering 37 rebounds, 28 assists, 12 steals, and two blocks.
  • The Fighting Scots shot 39.7 percent from the hardwood, 42.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 90.0 percent from the free throw line while tallying 35 rebounds, 11 assists, and four steals.
  • The Golden Bears lead by Brian Geitner who had 21 points and two assists. He went 5-8 in field goals, 5-7 from the three, and 6-6 from the line.
  • Gavin Greene added 18 points, and Jake Harrison collected eight assist and five steals.
