Harrison Goes for 33, Four Others Grab Double Digits in Scoring as Men’s Basketball Picks Up Key CCC Win over Roger Williams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 1, 2023) – Western New England's men's basketball team defeated the Roger Williams Hawks in their second head-to-head of the season 89-78.

Records:

How It Happened: Action started quick in this ball game. The two teams went basket for basket until the Golden Bears made some stops and hit a run with Tim Restall going to the basket for two, and Jake Harrison made his first three and was fouled on a made hoop for three points, WNE on top 14-7. The Hawks were sent to the foul line, came away with one, and Restall knocked in three more buckets, plus a trip to the hole from Gavin Greene, the Golden Bears were in the lead by double-digits, 22-8. The Hawks started to heat up beyond the arc, and a couple threes and few layups had them within six-points of WNE halfway through the first. Two threes from Mike Resnick had the Golden Bears back in a double-digit lead, Harrison and Greene increased it a bit more, score 39-20 at 6:29 in the first. Roger Williams knocked in two more three-pointers and a dunk, trying to creep back in the game. Greene and Resnick both put up a three before the end of the half for the Golden Bears to lead 47-34.

Harrison and Brian Geitner with quick threes to increase this WNE lead. the Hawks got on the scoreboard with free-throws, Restall added six and the Golden Bears were on top by 20. Roger Williams still putting up threes got the score gap to be 65-49, 13 minutes left in the game. Both Restall and Harrison continue to keep driving to the basket, coming away with two, WNE got back their 20-point lead with 7:04 on the clock. The Hawks knocked in five more three-point shots in the remainder of the ballgame, but a continued team effort and taking it to the rim at the end of it, won the Golden Bears the game, 89-78.

On the Floor:

  • As a team, the Golden Bears shot 60.7 percent from the floor, 46.7 percent from the three, and 61.5 percent from the foul line while gathering 36 rebounds, 21 assists, six steals, and four blocks.
  • The Hawks shot 43.5 percent from the hardwood, 48.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 71.4 percent from the free throw line while tallying 29 rebounds, 15 assists, five steals, and two blocks.
  • The Golden Bears were led by Jake Harrison, who had 33 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and three assists. He went 12-13 in field goals, 2-2 from the three, and 7-8 from the foul line.
  • Tim Restall added 22 points, and Gavin Greene pulled down 11 boards.
