Men’s Basketball Seen in Opening Regional Rankings

NCAA Regional Rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 8, 2023) – The Western New England men's basketball team was named in the first NCAA Regional Rankings, as produced by the regional advisory committee. 

Games through February 5, 2023 are included in the opening regional rankings. Along with Western New England (16-4, 10-2 CCC), Babson College (13-8, 6-4 NEWMAC), Keene State College (21-1, 13-0 LEC), Nichols College (16-5, 12-2 CCC), WPI (17-3, 9-1 NEWMAC), and Western Connecticut State University (19-2, 11-2 LEC) are all ranked alphabetically in the opening Region II rankings. 

Western New England sees two opponents from this season also ranked, with Trinity (Conn.) University ranked in Region I, whom the Golden Bears defeated, taking down the Bantams for their first loss of the season back on December 10. Rensselaer (RPI) is ranked in Region III. RPI took down WNE earlier this season in the 4th annual Western New England tip-off tournament. 

The next regional rankings will be released on Tuesday, February 14 which will also include results against regionally ranked opponents. WNE appears in the Regional Rankings for the first time in program history. 

After last night's contest at Endicott College, Western New England now sits at 16-5 and 10-3 in the CCC and will look to improve on both their overall and conference record this week with a non-conference tilt at Pratt Institute on Thursday, February 9 before returning to the Alumni Healthful Living Center on Saturday, February 11 at 3:00 pm to host Salve Regina University.
