Men’s Golf Finishes Fifth at Bill Detrick Invitational

Zogby paces Golden Bears with 8th place finish

NEWINGTON, Conn. (September 8, 2019) – The Western New England University men's golf team turned in a fifth place finish at the Bill Detrick Invitational following the conclusion of second round action on Sunday at Indian Hill Country Club.

The Golden Bears, who began the day in fifth place after opening the tournament with a score of 312 on Saturday, followed that up with a 315 today and finished fifth in the ten-team field with a 36-hole total of 627. Babson won the team title with a combined score of 581, followed by host Trinity (596), Amherst (602) and Tufts (603). Trinity's Ricardo Paes Leme won medalist honors with a one-under par 143, which paced the 59-golfer field.

Junior Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.), Western New England's round one leader after carding a one-over par 73, shot a 76 today and finished eighth overall with a 36-hole score of 149.

Sophomore Andrew Crean (Victor, N.Y.) matched Zogby's 76 today, a three-stroke improvement over his opening round 79. Crean tied for 21st place with a combined total of 155.

Junior Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine) also improved by three strokes in round two, following up his 80 with a 77 en route to finishing in a tie for 26th place with an overall score of 157.

Junior Peter Garlick (Somers, Conn.) and freshman Dominic Manning (Somers, Conn.) placed 41st and 49th, respectively, with scores of 166 and 170.
