Men’s Golf Finishes Second at CCC Fall Qualifier

Crean places third overall to lead Golden Bears

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (September 19, 2019) – The Western New England University men's golf team placed second in the seven-team field at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Fall Qualifier on Thursday at the Country Club of Wilbraham.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 316 on their way to second place, six strokes behind Nichols College (310), which won the tournament and earned the right to host the CCC Championship next spring. Roger Williams placed third (327), while the University of New England and Endicott College tied for fourth place with scores of 328. The Nor'easters won the tiebreaker over the Gulls, securing the fourth and final spot in the CCC Championship. Wentworth (343) and Gordon College (404) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Jake Willis of Nichols was the medalist after turning in a two-over par 74.

Sophomore Andrew Crean (Victor, N.Y.) was the top performer for the Golden Bears, placing third in the 34-golfer field with a score of 76 (+4).

Freshman Ryne Salius (Torrington, Conn.) carded a six-over 78, good for fifth place, while juniors Kade Howard (Ludlow, Mass.) and Cameron Cox (Bowdoinham, Maine) tied for eighth place with scores of 81.

Junior Ryan Zogby (New Hartford, N.Y.) shot an 83 and tied for 19th place, rounding out Western New England's five entries in the tournament.
