Alyssa Stefanelli Earns First Career CCC Player of the Week Award
Junior recorded 20 points & 11 rebounds in win over Suffolk on Saturday
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 13, 2018) – Junior forward Alyssa Stefanelli (Chicopee, Mass.) of the Western New England University women's basketball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Stefanelli posted her first career double-double on Saturday as the Golden Bears rallied to defeat Suffolk in their season-opener, 66-58.
The Chicopee, Mass. native scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, including 2-of-2 from three-point range, while also grabbing a career-best 11 rebounds.
Stefanelli helped Western New England overcome a 13-point third quarter deficit as she scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half.
Western New England (1-0) will be back in action on Tuesday night with a non-conference contest against crosstown rival Springfield College. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
