Meghan Gilhool Selected to Play in NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic

Montrose, Pa. native is among 23 of region's top seniors to be picked

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 14, 2019) – Senior guard Meghan Gilhool (Montrose, Pa.) of the Western New England University women's basketball team has been selected to participate in the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Gilhool is among 23 of the region's top senior women's basketball players to earn a spot in the game, which will be held on Saturday, March 23 at Blake Arena on the campus of Springfield College. Student-athletes were nominated by both sports information directors and coaches in the region, and selections were made based on voting conducted by coaches.

Gilhool capped her Western New England career by helping the Golden Bears capture their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship in program history.

Serving as team captain, Gilhool started all 29 contests while averaging 5.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

The Montrose, Pa. native led the CCC in assist/turnover ratio (2.2) and also ranked in the top-10 in total blocks (21 – 10th) assists (82 – 6th), and steals (49 – 5th).

In 113 career games (59 starts), she compiled 536 points, 418 rebounds, 226 assists, 127 steals and 47 blocks.

Gilhool, a health science major, is a two-time Academic All-CCC honoree.

Western New England went 20-9 this season and claimed the CCC title after defeating No. 2 seed UNE and No. 1 seed Endicott on the road in the semifinals and championship, respectively. Gilhool played a key role in the championship victory over the Gulls with nine points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
