Farrell & Orbann Named to All-CCC First Team
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 18, 2019) – Junior guard Emily Farrell (New Fairfield, Conn.) and junior forward Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) of the Western New England University women's basketball team were both named All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) first team performers, the league office announced on Monday along with its major award winners and All-CCC selections.
Orbann earns All-CCC recognition for the second consecutive season, after landing on the third team as a sophomore last year.
She averaged career-highs in points (13.0) and rebounds (7.4) per game during the regular season, ranking seventh and tied for fourth in the CCC in those categories, respectively. Orbann also posted career-best shooting percentages, with a 42.4% mark overall and a 34% clip from long range.
The East Hampton, Connecticut native registered five double-doubles, including a 16-point, 15-rebound performance in Western New England's 69-54 win over RPI on December 6, and a 16-point, 14-board showing in the Golden Bears' 65-60 triumph at the University of New England on January 26.
Overall, Orbann scored 10+ points in 19 of 25 games and had 10+ rebounds on seven occasions. She scored a season-high 24 points in a 74-49 triumph at Wentworth on December 1.
Farrell is a first-time All-CCC honoree after averaging career-highs in points (13.3), assists (4.2), rebounds (3.4) and steals (1.4) per game during the regular season.
She ranks second in the CCC in assists per game, tied for third in assist/turnover ratio (1.4), fifth in free throw shooting percentage (76.9) and sixth in scoring.
A three-time CCC Player of the Week, Farrell scored in double figures in 20 of 25 games this season with nine 15+ point performances. She recorded 5+ assists eight times and had 5+ rebounds on seven occasions.
Third-seeded Western New England (17-8, 11-5 CCC) opens the CCC Tournament at home on Tuesday night against sixth-seeded Salve Regina University (10-15, 6-10 CCC).
