Carlson Earns CCC Player of the Week Honors After Helping Lead Golden Bears to CCC Title

Woodbury, Conn. native averaged 18.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game during CCC Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 25, 2019) – After helping lead the Western New England University women's basketball team to its first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship in program history, junior forward Courtney Carlson (Woodbury, Conn.) has been named the CCC Player of the Week for the second time in her career.

Carlson averaged 18.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while shooting 55.8% (24-of-43) from the field during Western New England's run to the CCC title.

She had 16 points and nine boards in Tuesday's 64-52 quarterfinal win over Salve Regina, before scoring 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting to go with five rebounds on Thursday as the Golden Bears defeated UNE on the road in the semifinals.

Carlson turned in another strong performance in the championship game with a team-high 18 points and game-high nine rebounds to help Western New England secure the title. With the Golden Bears struggling offensively early in the first quarter, she scored the team's first eight points after the Gulls raced out to a 9-0 lead. Carlson also fueled Western New England's key 11-2 run in the fourth quarter with eight points as the Golden Bears extended their lead from three (50-47) to 12 (61-49).

Through 28 games this season (27 starts), Carlson is averaging 8.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She has been especially effective late in the season with 17 points per game over Western New England's last six contests.
