Wrestling Competes at NWCA National Duals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (January 10, 2020) – The Western New England University wrestling team competed at the NWCA National Duals at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Golden Bears had three matches on the day, facing Ithaca, Mount Union, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

In the first match, Ithaca defeated Western New England 30-12. Three Golden Bears won their respective weight class. Junior Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) won a 7-2 decision over Tito Colom at 125 pounds. Senior Alex Starr (Lebanon, Conn.) pinned Demetri D'Orsaneo in the 149 bout. Junior Ryan Monteiro (Wilbraham, Mass.) won a 9-5 decision over Sam Schneider in the 157 bout.

In their second match of the day, Western New England fell to Mount Union by a score of 26-18. Arborio picked up his second win of the day, winning a 13-5 major decision over Errik Gerback at 125 pounds. Monteiro also picked up his second win of the day, pinning Antwon Pugh in the 157 bout. Sophomore Jeffery Suschana (Somers, Conn.) won his first match of the day by winning a 6-4 decision over Chris Anderson in the 165-pound weight class. Senior John Boyle (Rowley, Mass.) secured a 19-0 technical fall over George Lassnick in the 184-pound weight class.

In their third match of the day, the Golden Bears fell to Wisconsin-Oshkosh by a score of 33-14. Arborio wrapped up a 3-0 day by winning a 13-3 major decision over Denis Murphy. Senior Davey Goodall (Chelmsford, Conn.) picked up his first win of the day by pinning Devin Keast in 174-pound weight class. Boyle grabbed his second win of the day by winning an 11-3 major decision over John DePersia.
