Wrestling Goes 3-0 on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 8, 2020) – The Western New England University wrestling team hosted a quad match on Saturday afternoon while also celebrating Senior Day. The Golden Bears hosted Alvernia, Southern Maine, and Trinity (CT).

The Golden Bears took down Alvernia (33-9), then Southern Maine (25-23), and then Trinity (33-15).

Six Golden Bears that competed in at least two matches went undefeated for the day.

In 125, junior Nick Arborio (Berlin, Conn.) went 3-0, one of which was pinning Peter Del Gallo of Southern Maine. Freshman Corey Cope (Quakertown, Pa.) went 2-0 for the day including a 15-3 major decision over Jacob Garcia of Southern Maine.

Freshman Nick Calderone (Selden, N.Y.) pinned Alexander Gorlin of Alvernia in the 133 weight class, and then defeated Trevor Engling of Southern Maine in the 141 weight class. Junior Justin DeLucia (Holbrook, N.Y.) went 2-0, which included a 20-4 technical fall win over Brock Drahus of Alvernia.

Senior Alex Starr (Lebanon, Conn.) and junior Ryan Monteiro (Wilbraham, Mass.) both went 3-0 for the day as well.
