Wrestling Hosts NEWA Futures Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 22, 2020) – The Western New England University wrestling team hosted the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament on Saturday at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Freshman Johnny Tesoriero (Succasunna, N.J.) picked up three wins in the 125 weight class. Tesoriero won a 12-3 major decision over Tyler Tweedie of New England College, pinned Chris Lavalle of Rhode Island College, and a sudden victory over Nicholas Roeger on Castleton.

Freshman Corey Cope (Quakertown, Pa.) picked up two wins in the 133 weight class. Cope secured a 16-0 technical fall win over Shawn Farrell of Bridgewater State and followed that up with a 20-2 technical fall win over Daijhawn Hudson of New England College.

Junior Chris Gresis (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), sophomore Mitchell Pardi (South Windsor, Conn.), freshman Sean Monteiro (Wilbraham, Mass.), senior DJ Tartsinis (Colchester, Conn.), and freshman Ben Falivene (Essex, Conn.) all picked up a win in their respective weight classes.
