Golden Bears Compete at Blue Jay Pentathlon

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 26, 2018) – The Western New England University women's swimming team returned to action on Friday at the University of Saint Joseph's Blue Jay Pentathlon at Bruyette Natatorium.

Top Performers
Junior Kayla Snider (Leesburg, Va.) led the Golden Bears with four top-ten finishes in the five 100-yard races. Snider's top effort came in the butterfly, where she placed third with a time of 1:06.97. She also finished fifth in the individual medley (1:10.04), seventh in the backstroke (1:09.87) and tenth in the breaststroke (1:22.65). Snider's performances in the backstoke and IM met the A-Cut standard for the NEISDA Championships.

Western New England received strong performances from freshmen Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) and Mary Margaret Getman (Oneonta, N.Y.). Tricarico was the top Golden Bear finisher in a pair of events, as she placed fourth in the backstroke (1:08.95) and fifth in the freestyle (1:01.32) to go with a seventh-place showing in the butterfly (1:16.35) and a ninth-place effort in the individual medley (1:12.20). Tricarico qualified for the NEISDA Championships with an A-Cut in the freestyle and a B-Cut in the IM. Getman finished ninth in the backstroke (1:12.72) and 11th in the freestyle (1:04.72).

Junior captain Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) nearly pulled off Western New England's lone event win of the day, as she finished second in the breaststroke with a time of 1:17.03. Elliott posted three other top ten efforts with a seventh place finish in the individual medley (1:11.95), an eighth place finish in the butterfly (1:17.36) and a tenth place finish in the backstroke (1:14.41).

Sophomore Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) turned in a fifth-place performance in the butterfly (1:11.80), a NEISDA B-Cut effort, and classmate Lauren Mangiaratti (Ashland, Mass.) finished seventh in the breaststroke (1:19.13).

Western New England will be back in action next Saturday as the Golden Bears travel to Babson for their first dual meet of the season.
