Golden Bears Break Two Program Records in Tri-Meet Split with Elms & Colby-Sawyer

CHICOPEE, Mass. (January 16, 2019) – The Western New England University women's swimming team split a tri-meet with Elms College and Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday afternoon at Partyka Natatorium. The Golden Bears defeated Colby-Sawyer 136-99 and fell to Elms 129-123. 

The meet was highlighted by a pair of program record performances, as freshman Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) posted a time of 1:05.90 in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing first in the event. Western New England's 800-meter freestyle relay of Tricarico, sophomore Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.), junior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) and senior Anna Boucher (Merrimack, N.H.) turned in a team and facility record time of 10:38.94.

The Golden Bears took the top two spots in both the 50 and 100-meter breaststroke events. In the 50, sophomore Lauren Mangiaratti (Ashland, Mass.) finished first (39.46 seconds) and Elliott placed second (41.15 seconds), while Elliott claimed first in the 100 (1:26.63) and Mangiaratti followed in second (1:29.19).

Western New England had five other runner-up efforts on the day – freshman Gianna Biolo (Watertown, Conn.) in the 800-meter freestyle (11:23.65), freshman Mary Margaret Getman (Oneonta, N.Y.) in the 50-meter backstroke (40.43 seconds), Tricarico in the 200-meter freestyle (2:26.26), Bartlett in the 200-meter butterfly (3:10.59) and Elliott in the 100-meter IM (1:18.48).

Western New England (5-4) will be back in action next Friday with a dual meet against the University of St. Joseph at 5 p.m. at the AHLC Pool.
