Blue Jays Pick up 148-114 Win over Golden Bears

Tricarico wins 200 and 500 yard freestyles for WNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 25, 2019) – The Western New England University women's swimming team was defeated by the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 148-114, on Friday night in a dual meet at the Alumni Healthful Living Center Pool.

Freshman Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears with a pair of event wins, as she finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.37) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:52.38).

Junior Kayla Snider (Leesburg, Va.) also picked up a pair of wins in the 50-yard butterfly (29.96 seconds) and the 100-yard IM (1:07.35).

Western New England took the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly, with junior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) and sophomore Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) placing first (1:14.40) and second (1:17.40), respectively.

Elliott also turned in a runner-up effort in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:46.18), while Bartlett finished third in the 500-yard freestyle (6:13.91).

Western New England's other win came in the 1000-yard freestyle, where freshman Gianna Biolo (Watertown, Conn.) was victorious with a time of 12:15.43.

Western New England will be right back in action tomorrow, as the Golden Bears host Western Connecticut and St. Joseph's (Maine) in a tri-meet at noon.
