Western New England Finishes 14th at NEISDA Championships

Snider & Elliott break 200-butterfly & 200-breastroke records, respectively

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (February 24, 2019) – The Western New England University swimming team wrapped up its 2018-19 campaign with a 14th-place finish at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships over the weekend at Zesiger Sports & Fitness Center Pool on the campus of MIT.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 268 en route to their 14th-place finish in the 20-team field. Simmons won the team title (1410.5 points), while Roger Williams (1257), Brandeis (1115.5), Keene State (1018) and Bridgewater State (676) rounded out the top five.

Two program records fell during Sunday's prelims, courtesy of juniors Kayla Snider (Leesburg, Va.) and Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.).

Snider swam the sixth-fastest time in the 200-yard butterfly prelims, as she clocked in with a school record performance of 2:18.97. Snider followed that up with a 2:20.33 effort in the finals, good for seventh place and All-New England honors.

Snider was also an All-New England performer in the 100-yard IM, placing eighth with a time of 1:05.05.

Elliott established a new program record in the 200-yard breaststroke prelims, as she registered a time of 2:39.58, before topping that mark in the finals (2:39.22).
