Women’s Swimming Opens Season at Roger Williams Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. (October 19, 2019) – The Western New England University women's swimming team opened its 2019-20 campaign at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday at the RWU Aquatics Center.

The Golden Bears finished seventh in the nine-team field with a score of 118. Host Roger Williams won the team title with a score of 651, followed by UMass Dartmouth (236.5) and Regis (234).

Senior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) turned in Western New England's top individual performance of the meet, placing third overall in the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 1:13.35. Elliott also finished 14th in the 200-IM (2:29.98).

Junior Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) narrowly missed posting top-10 efforts in the 100-butterfly and 500-freestyle, finishing 11th and 12th in those events, respectively, with times of 1:10.32 and 6:07.25.

Sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) registered an 11th-place showing in the 100-freestyle (1:00.15) and also finished 14th in the 50-freestyle (28.03 seconds).

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Renee Lussier (Northampton, Mass.) had strong performances in the 200-freestyle, finishing 15th (2:17.16), and the 50-freestyle, placing 17th (28.55 seconds).

Western New England will be back in action next Friday at the Blue Jay Pentathlon Invitational, hosted by the University of Saint Joseph.
