Women’s Swimming Competes at Bridgewater State Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Western New England University women's swimming team competed at the Bridgewater State Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Moriarty Pool.

The Golden Bears placed third in the four-team field with a team score of 347. Bridgewater State captured the team title with a score of 757, followed by Norwich (392).

Senior captain Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) led Western New England with a pair of event wins in the 50-breaststroke (34.86 seconds) and the 100-breaststroke (1:15.18) while also posting a runner-up finish in the 200-breaststroke (2:43.46).

Also posting individual event wins were sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) in the 200-backstroke (2:26.56) and freshman Renee Lussier (Northampton, Mass.) in the 200-freestyle (2:11.50). Additionally, Tricarico swam to second place in the 100-backstroke (1:08.39).

Western New England's 200-medley relay team of sophomore Kim Shekosky (Middletown, Conn.), Elliott, junior Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) and Tricarico finished third with a time of 2:06.02.

Bartlett also turned in a runner up performance in the 100-butterfly (1:09.36) and placed third in both the 400-IM (5:27.72) and the 200-butterfly (2:35.07).
