Women’s Swimming Competes at Elms College

CHICOPEE, Mass. (January 8, 2020) – The Western New England University women's swimming team competed at Elms College on Wednesday afternoon at the Partyka Natatorium.

Western New England broke team five records during the meet.

The Golden Bears got off to a great start. The group of sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.), senior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.), junior Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.), and freshman Reneé Lussier (Northampton, Mass.) placed first in the 400 SC meter medley relay with a time of 5:04.33, breaking the team record in the process.

Sophomore Gianna Biolo (Watertown, Conn.) became the first athlete in program history to swim in the 1500 SC meter freestyle event. Biolo placed second in the event.

Lussier took first place in the 200 SC meter freestyle event with a time of 2:31.24. Bartlett took third in the race.

Elliott broke the program record in the 50 SC meter breaststroke with a time of 38.11, good enough for first place in the event. Sophomore Avery Hill (North Haven, Conn.) took second place, while Biolo took third.

Tricarico took first place in the 50 SC meter freestyle with a time of 31.30. Lussier finished right behind Tricarico with a time of 31.68.

Bartlett finished in first place in the 100 SC meter freestyle with a time of 1:13.46. Tricarico won the 100 SC meter backstroke event with a time of 1:16.78.

In the 100 SC meter breaststroke, the Golden Bears took the top three spots. Elliott finished first with a time of 1:23.02, followed by Hill (1:31.88) and Biolo (1:35.37.

Elliott won the 100 SC meter IM with a time of 1:16.73, breaking the program record. The Golden Bears finished the day by winning the 200 SC meter freestyle relay and with Bartlett winning the 200 SC meter butterfly.
