Women’s Swimming Downs Gordon in Dual Meet Opener, 174-72

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England University women's swimming team opened its dual meet schedule with a 174-72 win over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Healthful Living Center Pool.

Western New England won all but one of the 14 events, with six different Golden Bears posting an event victory.

Senior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) and sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) led the way with three wins each, while junior Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) was victorious twice. 

Elliott captured the 50-yard breaststroke with a personal best time of 33.91 seconds, nearly breaking the program record in the event. She also won the 100-breaststroke (1:13.43) and the 200-IM (2:29.34).

Tricarico finished first in the 50-backstroke (32.25 seconds), the 50-freestyle (28.09 seconds) and the 100-freestyle (59.98 seconds), while junior Julianna Foley (Wilbraham, Mass.) set a personal best mark in the 100-freestyle (1:10.05), placing third in the event.

Bartlett had a strong day with personal best performances in the 200-freestyle (2:15.06), the 100-butterfly (1:09.19) and the 50-butterfly (31.19 seconds), taking first place in the 200-free and 100-fly.

Sophomore Sierra Tatro (Sturbridge, Mass.) set personal bests in the 50-breaststroke (46.14 seconds) and 100-breaststroke (1:41.05).
