Women’s Swimming Falls to Westfield State in Dual Meet Action, 132-110

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England University women's swimming team fell to Westfield State University, 132-110, in dual meet action on Wednesday night at the Ely Pool.  

Junior Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) won one event each to lead the way for the Golden Bears, as Bartlett took first in the 100-butterfly (1:09.18) and Tricarico captured the 200-freestyle (2:10.66).

Westfield State won ten of the first 12 events before swimming the final three as exhibitions. Owls junior Kait Kelly was the top performer for the home team, winning the 50-backstroke, 50-freestyle and 100-backstroke.

In addition to her first-place finish in the 200-free, Tricarico placed second in the 50-freestyle (27.98 seconds) and third in the 100-backstroke (1:09.40). 

Western New England also received runner-up performances from sophomore Gianna Biolo (Watertown, Conn.) in the 1000-freestyle (12:45.94), sophomore Kim Shekosky (Middletown, Conn.) in the 50-backstroke (33.33 seconds), freshman Renee Lussier (Northampton, Mass.) in the 100-freestyle (1:04.13), and senior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) in both the 50-breaststroke (34.70 seconds) and 100-breaststroke (1:14.84).

The Golden Bears won the 200-freestyle relay as Bartlett, Lussier, Tricarico and Elliott clocked in with a time of 1:55.93.

Western New England will be back in action on Saturday with a tri-meet at Eastern Connecticut State University, as the Golden Bears take on the Warriors and Plymouth State.
