Women’s Swimming Competes at NEISDA Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. (February 17, 2020) – The Western New England University women's swimming team competed at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships over the weekend at the Tootell Aquatics Center at the University of Rhode Island.

On Thursday evening, the team of freshman Renee Lussier (Northampton, Mass.), sophomore Gianna Biolo (Watertown, Conn.), junior Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.), sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 9:11.59, gathering 22 points for the Golden Bears.

On Friday, Bartlett grabbed a personal best time in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:08.18. Senior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) placed ninth in the 50-yard breaststroke, including getting a personal best time. Tricarico swam a personal best 2:19.98 in the 200-yard backstroke, gathering 16 points for Western New England. The team of Tricarico, Elliott, Bartlett, and Lussier swam for a time of 4:25.48 in the 400-yard medley relay, scoring 30 points for the Golden Bears.

On Saturday, Tricarico placed 12th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.29, while Lussier finished with a time of 2:13.23, getting seven points for the Golden Bears. The team of sophomore Avery Hill (North Haven, Conn.), Biolo, Bartlett, and Elliott grabbed 10 points for Western New England in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

On Sunday, Tricarico finished with a time of 30.10 in the 50-yard backstroke, gaining 15 points for the Golden Bears. Elliott swam for a time of 2:33.81 in the 200-yard breaststroke, gathering 23 points for Western New England. Bartlett collected 17 points in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:31.07. The team of Tricarico, Hill, Lussier, and Elliott finished with a time of 4:07.54 in the 400-yard freestyle relay, collecting 18 points for the Golden Bears.

Western New England finished with a total of 215 points.
