Women’s Swimming Competes at Mount Holyoke College Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (January 19, 2020) – The Western New England University women's swimming team competed over the weekend at the Mount Holyoke College Invitational.

Wellesley College took first place with a score of 1241.5. Smith College finished second with 770.5, followed by Mount Holyoke College (767), Merrimack College (589), and Western New England (204).

Sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.) led the team in points throughout the weekend.

There were many personal and season bests for the Golden Bears over the weekend.

Sophomore Gianna Biolo (Watertown, Conn.) achieved her best time in the 1650 yard freestyle race. Freshman Nina Cushinsky (Marblehead, Mass.) achieved three bests, the 50 yard freestyle, the 100 yard backstroke, and the 100 yard butterfly.

Senior Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) had a best in the 50 yard freestyle. Junior Julianna Foley (Wilbraham, Mass.) achieved bests in the 50 yard freestyle, the 50 yard backstroke, and the 100 yard backstroke. Sophomore Becca Friedman (Farmington, Conn.) got bests in the 100 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke.

Sophomore Avery Hill (North Haven, Conn.) has a best in the 50 yard freestyle. Freshman Reneé Lussier (Northampton, Mass.) had bests in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle. Junior Hannah Manolis (West Hartford, Conn.) had bests in the 50 yard freestyle, 50 yard backstroke, and 100 yard backstroke.

The Golden Bears also participated in a long-standing tradition at the event. The tradition is a relay where teams were mixed in lanes and every swimmer and diver completed one 25 yard lap until every person competing in the meet had swum.
