Westfield State Edges Western New England, 3-2

WESTFIELD, Mass. (September 3, 2016) – The Westfield State University field hockey team edged visiting Western New England University, 3-2, this afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Field.

Top Performers
Junior forward Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) scored one of Western New England's two goals and led the team with six shots on target.
Junior forward Michelle Carlson (Hackettstown, N.J.) also registered a goal on two shots.
Junior goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) faced 16 shots and turned back 13 of them.

Junior Rachel Testa (Westminster, Mass.) scored two goals, including the game-winner with 3:28 to play for the Owls.

Game Review
Western New England got on the board first with 12:46 remaining in the first half when Carlson scored on a feed from junior forward Allison Jackson (Mahopac, N.Y.).
Just a minute and a half later, Testa equalized for Westfield State on a redirected shot by Delaney Gembis (North Chelmsford, Mass.).
After falling behind 2-1, Western New England pulled even at the 62:13 mark of the second half on a penalty corner play as DeLima finished at the left post after receiving a pass from Jackson.
Testa deflected home the game-winner late in the contest after Trupe had made an initial save on Megan Evans' (Enfield, Conn.) shot attempt.

Notes
Sophomore midfielder Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y.) fired a team-high seven shots, including four on target, a game after recording a career-high eight points.
After being outshot 10-2 in the first half, Westfield State held a 21-9 advantage in the category over the final 35 minutes of action.
The Owls held a 10-7 edge in penalty corners.

Western New England (1-1) returns to action next Saturday morning at Clark, while Westfield State (2-0) will look to keep its perfect record intact against Framingham State on Wednesday.
