Gulls Top Golden Bears with Late Goal, 3-2

Felice, Antinozzi score for Western New England, while DeLima records two assists

SPRINGFIELD,  Mass. (September 28, 2016) – Endicott College sophomore forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) scored the go-ahead goal with 14 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the Gulls to a 3-2 victory over Western New England University this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
• Sophomores Lana Felice (Pawling, N.Y.) and Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y.) each scored for the Golden Bears, while junior Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) recorded assists on both goals.

• Cogliano fueled Endicott's comeback, scoring in the 28th minute before netting the game-winner in the closing seconds.

Game Review
• Felice opened the scoring for Western New England just under 16 minutes into the contest when she fired a shot into the left corner of the cage off a penalty corner play.
• Antinozzi made it 2-0 exactly six minutes later, scoring her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
• The Gulls would get one goal back before halftime, as Cogliano beat Western New England junior goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) with an unassisted strike.
• Endicott equalized in the 49th minute, when junior midfielder Madi Wood (Bristol, Vt.) notched her first career goal with a shot that skipped past Trupe.
• The contest appeared to be headed for overtime, but Cogliano recorded her second goal of the game on a deflection at the 69:46 mark to secure the win for Endicott.

Notes
• Trupe finished with five saves, while Endicott senior Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) totaled four.
• DeLima now leads the CCC with nine assists, and Antinozzi is tied for the conference lead with nine goals.
• Western New England was outshot by an 11-9 margin, but the Golden Bears held a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.

Western New England (4-5, 3-2 CCC) will be off this weekend, before returning to action next Tuesday at Salve Regina. Endicott (5-4, 4-1 CCC) will face the Seahawks on Saturday in Beverly, Mass.
