Antinozzi & Clark Score as Western New England Earns 2-0 Victory at Gordon

Golden Bears improve to 2-1 in CCC play, 3-3 overall

WENHAM, Mass. (September 20, 2016) – The Western New England University field hockey team scored once in each half on its way to a 2-0 victory over Gordon College this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Athletic Complex. 

Top Performers
• Sophomore midfielder Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y.), who has emerged as one of the top offensive threats in the CCC, tallied the opener for the Golden Bears late in the first half.
• Freshman forward Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) provided Western New England with some insurance as she scored the first goal of her collegiate career to make it 2-0 just over ten minutes into the second half.
• Junior goalie Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) stopped both of the shots that she faced, earning her first shutout of the season.

Game Review
• Antinozzi broke the scoreless tie at the 29:01 mark of the first half when she knocked in a rebound following a shot by freshman forward Madison Barron (Lebanon, Pa.).
• Western New England extended its lead in the 46th minute off of a penalty corner, as Clark finished off a feed from junior forward Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) as Gordon goalkeeper Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) approached.
• Gordon did not record a shot after the 44th minute of play as the Golden Bears continued to keep the ball in their offensive end.

Notes
• Antinozzi's team-leading seventh goal of the season ranks second in the CCC.
• The Golden Bears outshot the Fighting Scots by a 13-3 margin and also held a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.
• Trupe's two-save shutout marks the fifth clean sheet of her career.

Western New England (3-3, 2-1 CCC) will be back in action on Thursday at crosstown rival Springfield College, while Gordon (3-4, 0-2 CCC) heads to Endicott for a CCC contest on Saturday.
