Golden Bears Earn 4-3 Victory at Salve Regina

DeLima hands out three assists, Carlson scores game-winner in 63rd minute

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (October 4, 2016) – The Western New England University field hockey team strengthened its hold on third place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) standings with a 4-3 victory over Salve Regina University this evening at Gaudet Field.

Top Performers
• Junior forward Brittany DeLima (Branchville, N.J.) was credited with assists on three of Western New England's goals, including classmate Michelle Carlson's (Hackettstown, N.J.) game-winner late in the second half.
• Freshman forward Madison Barron (Lebanon, Pa.) scored her second and third goals of the season.
• Sophomore midfielder Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y.) provided an assist on Barron's first goal, before giving the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead at the 52:35 mark.

• Junior midfielder Amber Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) led the way for the Seahawks, registering a hat trick with one goal in the first half and two in the second.

Game Review
• Cody staked Salve Regina to a 1-0 lead just 2:43 into the contest, but Western New England equalized on Barron's first goal of the night at the 7:49 mark to cap the scoring in the first half.
• Antinozzi broke the 1-1 deadlock with 17:25 remaining in regulation, marking the start of a ten-minute stretch that featured five goals between the two teams.
• Cody tied the score for the second time at the 56:03 mark, but Barron put the Golden Bears back in front just 1:23 later. Cody's third goal of the night followed 1:14 after Barron's tally, setting the stage for Carlson's eventual game-winner with 7:55 remaining.

Notes
• Salve Regina held a 21-18 edge in shots and a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.
• Western New England junior goalkeeper Grace Trupe (Cardiff, Calif.) finished with ten saves, her fourth 10+ save effort this season.
• Antinozzi recorded a game-high six shots, three of which were on goal.

Western New England (5-5, 4-2 CCC) will be back in action on Thursday night with a non-conference contest against Smith College at Golden Bear Stadium, while Salve Regina (6-5, 2-4 CCC) heads to Roger Williams for a Friday night CCC showdown.
