Bayer, Gordon Compete at 2021 ITA Regional Championships

Brunswick, Maine (September 27, 2021) – The Western New England University men's tennis team sent two athletes to compete in the ITA New England Championships over the weekend hosted by Bowdoin College. Nick Bayer and Max Gordon both competed in the singles and doubles contests for the Golden Bears.

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears two participants both competed in singles play as well as doubles play during the three-day tournament. In singles play, Nick Bayer matched Jack Flores from Bowdoin College and was defeated by Flores 6-3, 6-0. Meanwhile, teammate Max Gordon found his first-round draw to be Josh Anschuetz from Wheaton College (Mass.). Anshuetz took the first-round matchup 6-1, 6-2 from Gordon in the first competition of the season for the Golden Bears. The champion of the singles round represented Williams College as Chase Cohen defeated Stan Morris from Middlebury College by a score of 6-3, 6-0.

In the round of 64 doubles tournament, both Bayer and Gordon competed together, falling in the first round to Neel Epstein and Zachary Hilty of Middlebury College by a score of 8-1. In the end, two representatives from Middlebury College took the doubles victory as Noah Laber and Aidan Harris were crowned champions after defeating Williams' Matt Kandal and Peter Frelinghuysen by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (6).

Up Next on the Schedule

  • As of now, this is the only match on the schedule for the men's tennis team in the fall season. They will compete in the 2022 spring season with a schedule to be announced at a later date.
